The Rubber Band Season

The last couple of months have stretched me in ways I didn’t see coming.
There were moments I felt right at the edge of a breakdown.
One part of me wanted to let go.
Another part reminded me: “If you fail in the days of adversity, your strength is small.”
That tug-of-war is real. And exhausting.
In the middle of it, a lesson from John Maxwell’s 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth gave me perspective: The Law of the Rubber Band.
Once you’re stretched by a new idea, a bigger vision, or a harder season, you never return to your original shape.
Your capacity and bandwidth expand for good.
It made me ask what this stretch might be developing in me:
A greater capacity to navigate uncertainty
The patience to stay with a difficult process
The courage to ask for help (tough one for me)
If you’re leading people, building a business, preparing for your next role, or chasing a meaningful goal, you may know this tug-of-war too.
You want to grow, yet some days the demands of growth feel heavier than you expected.
Be encouraged, capacity grows through what we repeatedly practice.
I am learning to;
Break down overwhelming goals into one manageable action
Seek support before exhaustion takes over
Rest so I can return with clarity
These choices count as progress, too.
I’m learning to stay committed to the destination while adjusting my pace.
So if you’re in a season of stretching, give yourself grace. Take the next purposeful step. Let someone support you.
You may still be in the middle of the process, and already becoming more capable than you realize.
Stay in the process. It will all work out in the end.
What is this season teaching you to do differently?
