You Don’t Arrive at “There”… You Build It

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “When I get there…”?

Well, I have.

I remember being in prayer meetings where we were led to pray about “the place called there,” and we prayed… deeply. Passionately. With everything in us.

It felt good. It felt powerful.

But if I’m honest now… I’m not sure I truly understood what “there” meant.

I knew the references, like Genesis, when Abraham was told to go to a place he would be shown. So yes, I get it, ‘there’ can represent alignment, purpose, being in God’s will.

But somewhere along the way, many of us quietly redefined it to mean;

The moment life finally clicks.

The promotion.

The stability.

The version of us that has “arrived”.

And without even realizing it, we started doing something subtle, but costly. We started waiting.

Waiting for the right platform.

Waiting for things to settle down.

Waiting for the ideal job.

Waiting for the kids to get older.

Waiting for financial stability to show up fully… before we show up fully.

But here’s what self-awareness gently confronts in us:

What if “there” isn’t a destination… but a distraction?

Because the life we’re hoping to step into later is being shaped by how we’re showing up right now, in the ordinary, unnoticed, in small and consistent choices.

And if we’re really honest with ourselves, sometimes “there” becomes a comfortable hiding place.

A place where we delay growth.

Delay courage.

Delay becoming.

Until everything feels perfect.

But life doesn’t work like that.

Time keeps moving. Quietly. Faithfully.

Those little gray hairs?

They’re not just signs of aging… they’re reminders that we are time-bound.

And while it’s comforting to believe God orders our steps…

We still have to take those steps.

So maybe the real question isn’t:

How do I get there?

Maybe it’s:

Who am I choosing to be today?

Because here’s the shift that changed things for me:

Today is not separate from “there.”

Today is where “there” begins.

So don’t wait. Show up now.

Grow now. Start now.

And watch how “there” quietly meets you along the way.

What’s one small step you can take today?

Think about it and take an action!
