I Called It Juggling. Now I Call It Wisdom.

We celebrate “multi-tasking” like it’s a superpower.
We put it on our CVs. Hiring managers ask for it.
But research is clear:
The human brain cannot effectively focus on more than one complex task at a time.
What we call multi-tasking is actually rapid task-switching, and every time we switch, we lose quality, clarity, and cognitive energy.
What I Have Learned
It is not about trying to juggle every ball equally.
It is about deciding which balls matter most.
That realization changed the way I think about productivity, leadership, and life itself.
Brian Dyson, former CEO of Coca-Cola, said it best:
“Work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But family, health, friends, and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will never be the same.”
Those words carry a powerful reminder.
There is no wisdom in trying to hold every ball with equal grip.
The real wisdom is identifying which ones are the glass balls, and protecting them fiercely.
Here’s a practical starting point:
If you feel stretched, overwhelmed, or pulled in too many directions, start here:
✅ Name your top 3 priorities for this season
✅ Post them somewhere you see every day
✅ Let every decision pass through that filter
You are not failing because you can’t do it all.
You are learning the discipline of what truly matters.
The goal is not to become better at juggling.
The goal is to become wiser about what deserves your attention.
A Reflection Question
What are your top 3 right now?
What glass ball do you need to protect better?
